Luis Ramos, of Frank Espinoza’s “Espinoza Boxing Club”, is already looked upon as one of the hottest young prospects in boxing. After a decorated amateur career spanning more than 100 fights and 6 national championships, Ramos turned to the professional ranks in late 2007. Having already built an impressive record of 16 wins, 8 coming by way of knockout, Ramos’ following in the Southern California area is impressive, to say the least. Ramos is never in a dull fight, and fights with a crowd-pleasing style. Keep an eye on Ramos in the near future, as his next scheduled bout is set to be televised on Telefutura on September 17, 2010, from Los Angeles, California.
Bound together by the mutual foes they’ve conquered, these two pound for pound greats are set to face off in a fight which will almost certainly break all Pay Per View records.
Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather are the biggest names in boxing at the moment, so it’s only logical for these two to settle the score as to who is the best P4P fighter breathing

Assuming the fight ever does go down given all the controversies surrounding the drug-testing schemes, I truly believe Pacquiao will give Mayweather his first loss. I know it will come really difficult and will be met with Mayweather’s vaunted defense, but it will happen. OH YES.
That’s why Mayweather is doing everything in his power to derail this fight because he knows what Pacquiao brings to the table. And of course, Mayweather’s supporters continue to ride the bandwagon all the way to disillusionment. Fact of the matter is, Floyd, ultimate defense and all, is a pot-shotter. He hasn’t thrown a meaningful combination since his days in the Light Welterweight division, and you just can’t fight that way against Pacquiao who is known for his fast (and plentiful) combinations.
The truth is, Mayweather doesn’t want to have to work every minute of every round. He doesn’t want to burn his legs out backpedalling away from Pacquiao’s bombs. He doesn’t want to get hit in that dislocated shoulder of his and risk not being able to roll it when the going gets tough. He knows that Pacquiao is a nightmare matchup for anyone, himself included. I mean, who would want a piece of that? But Mayweather knows the road to redemption goes through Pacquiao (subsequently it is also the road to millions of dollars). That’s why I think this whole PEDs fiasco is just a marketing stunt played out by the geniuses over at Top Rank and Golden Boy to maximize as much noise for this fight as possible.
You can’t block them all. Even given Mayweather’s superior defensive ability, Pacquiao will force him to fight and when they do, I have to give the advantage to Pacquiao in the exchanges. It will be similar to Mayweather-Castillo I. For those who have not seen the fight, catch it on Youtube somewhere and you will see how Mayweather doesn’t like to get roughed up. Except this time around, Mayweather will be on the losing end.
They say you are only as good as your last fight and if Juan Manuel Marquez was able to land a couple solid blows to Mayweather’s pretty face given the low punch output and considering Marquez is a natural counter puncher and not an aggressor, Pacquiao will have a much easier time finding the mark. You can block it all up until the 3rd or 4th punch but Pacquiao throws 6 and 7 punch combinations with blinding speed. There is no one on the face of the planet that has the reflexes required to block them all. Once Pacquiao finds his range, which I predict will be in and around the third round, Floyd will have to find a way to adjust which he is very good at but, when opponents try to adjust is usually when they fall to Pacquiao’s sneaky power shots.
It was never any PEDs. It was always about the superior conditioning these guys do to prepare for a fight. Both Mayweather and Pacquiao have gone up in weight successfully and both are freaks of nature physically. This is due to the hours of training they put into the gym, whether they have a fight scheduled or not. You don’t see Pacquiao or Mayweather ballooning a la Ricky Hatton when there’s no scheduled fight, do you? No.
The sport of Boxing needs this fight to throw down. The fans need this fight to throw down. Both fighters need this fight. This is a fight that just simply has to be made, and I believe it will. And when it does, prepare for the atmosphere of a lifetime. And we will count down the final days of Mayweather’s undefeated streak.
Mayweather’s road leads to redemption, in the eyes of analysts and fans alike. Pacquiao’s leads to immortality.
Floyd Mayweather called in from Miami to talk with DJ Whoo Kid and the Shade 45 crew last week, and the gloves were on! Listen as the fighting phenom discusses boxing vs. the MMA, the Tiger Woods debacle, Sugar Shane Mosley, his record label and more!
Which sport has the best fans? What is Floyd’s favorite song right now? Which aspiring rapper stole his diamond watch? What will he, 50 Cent and Whoo Kid be doing this New Year’s Eve? Why is Shane Mosley begging to fight Mayweather? How does he feel about haters? How does HBO really feel about champs like Roy Jones, Jr. and Mike Tyson? What advice does he have for Tiger Woods?
Is Manny Pacquiao afraid of needles? Is he really superstitious about needles? That’s what it sounds like coming from Team Pacquiao as this media blitz continues to damage Manny Pacquiao’s image.
Floyd Mayweather Sr. first came publicly with accusations of Manny Pacquiao being on “supplements” in September of 2009. This just so happened to be just before Floyd Mayweather Jr. was going to make his return into the ring after an almost two year layoff against Juan Manuel Marquez. The #2 Pound for Pound fighter in the sport at the time.
“I believe he’s on some type of supplements. I’m convinced about a lot of (boxers), that’s what they’re doing right now. Everybody should be checked a little bit more thoroughly. Sometimes people know what’s going on but they ain’t saying nothing.” Mayweather Sr. said.
The elder Mayweather also was quoted as saying “I don’t think he can beat Lil’ Floyd with steroids in him or not because he don’t have that kind of talent. He don’t have that kind of skill. I think they’re pushing Pacquiao a little too much, even if he’s got ‘roids in his body. The steroids aren’t going to make him no faster. It’s going make him relentless and hit strong, but that’s it. It ain’t going to put no knowledge in your head.”
A Week after Manny Pacquiao’s destruction over Miguel Cotto, Alex Ariza whom is Pacquio’s strength and conditioning coach stated that only he had knowledge of what goes into Pacquiao’s body, not Pacquiao but himself. Ariza also stated, “I am the one in charge, I’m the one responsible for what Manny takes. He has no idea what he takes. I don’t give my guys any steroids. What I give them is all natural and its my own special blend of different things.”
He has no idea what he takes?
It’s my own special blend of different things?
Why wouldn’t Manny Pacquiao want to know what he takes? Haven’t we heard this same old song & dance by numerous athletes in various sports ranging from baseball to cycling? From Football to Track & Field?
Why are the representatives for Pacquiao downplaying the use of Olympic Style Blood Testing?
Why are they trying to spin to the public that a urine test is just as good?
In September of 2009 Freddie Roach was quoted in an interview saying “Manny is not on steroids, we have taken him a couple of times to be tested, and we haven’t tested positive yet. I think Mayweather Sr. is wrong, but all Manny’s on is white rice.” If that is all that Manny is on then whats the problem with the test?
I keep hearing excuses with no reason or logic coming from Pac’s camp. First it was a superstition, then it was he would be to weak, then it was he didn’t want to interrupt training with random test’s. I wonder why they would agree to NON-Random blood test’s?
Roach also said “I’ve done my homework, I’ve talked to experts, urine and blood-testing are almost identical in this type of situation. Neither test can detect growth hormones and HGH and stuff like that anyway. So, I’ll do all of the urine tests in the world, no problem. I’ll give blood 30 days before the fight or after the fight in the dressing room, I’ll give blood, but not right before the fight.”
*scratches head*……I don’t know if I should believe Freddie Roach or Travis Tygart, the chief executive of the United States Anti-Doping Agency?
Travis Tygart, said his organization has a checklist that it calls the matrix of effectiveness. It includes blood and urine testing, both in and out of competition. Blood tests, Tygart added, detect prohibited substances like human growth hormone, synthetic hemoglobin, designer EPO and blood transfusions, while urine tests do not.
Pacquiao has agreed to have his blood tested three times: in early January, when the fight was expected to be announced, 30 days before the fight and immediately after it. He also agreed to random urine testing.
But Tygart said the 30-day window would still allow an athlete plenty of time to dope with illegal substances not detectable by urine testing.
“That kind of window is totally unacceptable,” Tygart said. “It would provide a huge loophole for a cheater to step through and get away with cheating.”
Tygart also confirmed, that the test requires less than a teaspoon of blood. They noted the athletes who have undergone this type of testing, including Kobe Bryant and Michael Phelps.
Arum countered with Top Rank’s preference: using the testing procedures of the N.F.L. or the N.B.A., organizations that he said “deal with professional athletes.” The issue is not the testing, Arum said, but who does it and when……….*scratches head….again*
Why is Bob Arum opposed to arguably the best drug test administered in the world?
Why is he opposed to RANDOM testing? Why would he want test done but only if they are notified before hand?
Pacquiao’s camp said he had a problem with giving blood. Leonard Ellerbe (Mayweather’s advisor) then wondered why Pacquiao had tattoos if he has an aversion to needles. Arum said the issue was with the blood, not the needles.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh that makes sense now..NEEDLES…..ahhhhh I understand now..He is afraid of NEEDLES….fearful of them to the highest degree.
So I guess this video below explains the whole NEEDLE Myth?
Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a recent statement was quoted as saying “I understand Pacquiao not liking having his blood taken, because frankly I don’t know anyone who really does,” said Mayweather. “But in a fight of this magnitude, I think it is our responsibility to subject ourselves to sportsmanship at the highest level. I have already agreed to the testing and it is a shame that he is not willing to do the same. It leaves me with great doubt as to the level of fairness I would be facing in the ring that night. I hope that this is either some miscommunication or that Manny will change his mind and step up and allow these tests, which were good enough for all these other great athletes, to be performed by USADA.”
If Mayweather is willing to TAKE THE SAME EXACT Olympic style test why won’t Manny agree? This situation is leaving the boxing world pondering the motives of Team Pacquiao’s refusal to comply with something that his opponent Floyd Mayweather Jr. has no issues about.
Juan Manuel Marquez vs Manny Pacquiao both fights are perfect for Floyd to study. They show how easy it is for Pacquiao to get hit with perfect placed right hands. Manny is a very good offensive puncher no doubt, but at the same time he is a sucker for straight right hands. Look at the video attached. Marquez just didn’t have the power to really put Pacquiao down for the count. Yet and still Pacquiao’s speed and movement are hard for just about any fighter to handle.
That is until he faces Floyd Mayweather. What has been talked about as the most anticipated match up this decade will live up to the expectations of the fans. Whether you are a true boxing fanatic or just a average joe blow that turns on ESPN2, Showtime, or HBO to catch a fight from time to time. If the average couch potatoe does not know who these 2 fighters are, they will hear enough about it until they meet March 13.
The thing that makes this a hard fight for Manny Pacquiao is that Floyd doesn’t believe in getting hit. He avoids this at all cost. What fans feel to realize is that Pacquiao is a southpaw fighter. His power is in his left hand. The problem is that Floyd shoulder rolls his left shoulder inside to the right. This makes it extremely difficult for Pacquiao to land a “flush” left hand. Let’s take Roach’s ability to improve Manny’s right hand and turn it into a powerful right hook. Same problem, shoulder roll will block it. Now Manny can hit Floyd’s left side of the body though.
Problem with that is Floyd will be ready to counter with his own right hand lead. We must not forget that these two fighters are “precision” punchers. Manny has precision punches but tends to drop his hands while doing so, leaving himself open. Floyd punches with precision but at the same time snaps right back into defensive mode. This fight will be very intriguing. I would have to say it will come down to who is conditioned better.
As far as conditioning goes, Floyd believes in the old traditional training. No supplements, or anything is going in his body. If anything, Floyd admits to being a junk food adict. Manny on the other hand is into supplements since he came across Conditioning Coach Ariza. This puts us in mind of Rocky Balboa vs Ivan Drago. We are not saying Manny is on drugs. We are doing a comparision to Ivan using high tech equipment vs Rocky using old school traning techniques. Both are representing their countries. We hope like in the Rocky IV movie that both countries can come together in unity.
I have to say it is hard to believe that Pacquiao does not want to take the blood test to prove he is not on any performance enhancing drugs. Mayweather is willing to take the same exact test at the same time. Could Floyd Sr. be right this time? Pacquiao has really thrown the media and fans into a loop with this. Freddie Roach says that the NSAC testing is fine but the Oylympic Style drug testing isn’t. We are confused.
Everybody is on their wits end as to whether this fight is going to take place at all. I mean we are still shocked over the $10 million dollar over the weight limit controversy. I mean even Marquez camp didn’t ask for that much. There really shouldn’t be a problem with Floyd making the 147lbs anyways. Are the two camps really playing us? Are they just trying to build up hype? We hope they aren’t. Our hearts and mind cannot take these mind games. This whole thing is becoming a cirus event and it just might draw the fans away.
Needless to say, we need this fight to happen. The fans need this fight. Mayweather needs this fight, Pacquiao needs this fight. All the men involved need to put their pride to the side. It’s a shame that the sport of boxing has moved from the “Love of Boxing” to “how much money” can I make in boxing without taking high risk.
Let’s get over it Promoters. May the best man win.
For fear of being outsmarted by Floyd Mayweather Jr., Manny Pacquiao, by way of his lawyer Franklin Gacal, said in a text message late Tuesday night in the Philippines that the Filipino fighter will be “demanding a penalty of $10 million per pound or a fraction thereof over and above 147 lbs during the weighin” in relation to the March 13, 2010 fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Gacal, however, made it clear that the “penalty applies to both fighters”, meaning if Pacquiao fails to make weight, he will also be forced to cough out the same amount.
Against Juan Manuel Marquez last September, Mayweather was compelled to pay Marquez a total of $600,000 for coming in at 146 lbs. The agreed weight was 144 lbs. Mayweather went on to beat the overpowered Mexican on a lopsided 12-round decision. It is unclear if Mayweather will agree to what appears to be an over-the-top demand by Team Pacquiao. Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions are staging the fight and a formal annoucement is being awaited anytime this week. Both fighters are guaranteed a purse of $25 million each and their total earnings can go up to as high as $40 million apiece
Before Floyd Mayweather left Top Rank he made it a point to CALL OUT EVERYONE..ALL OF THE BIGGER NAMES THAN HIM….in all of his POST FIGHT interviews Prince Nassem, Joel Casamoyar, Acelino Frietas, Paul Spadafora, Jose Louis Castillo, Kostya Tszyu, Stevie Johnson, Juan Lazcano, Oscar De La Hoya, Shane Mosley, Arturo Gatti, Miguel Cotto, and Ricky Hatton: Coincidentally Mayweather was still under contract with Bob arum/Top Rank…….
It seems to me that Mayweather didn’t get the reputation as a “Ducker” until Bob Arum started spewing it into the media and websites AFTER Mayweather left Top Rank. Bob Arum BITTER about his STAR leaving Top Rank went on a Media Blitz to discredit Mayweather while attempting to push his fighter MARGARITO in the limelight by promoting “fear propaganda” and associating his name to Mayweather’s. I mean this is the same Bob Arum that didn’t want to put Miguel Cotto in with Mayweather when they were @140lbs and BOTH with Top Rank & now all of a sudden Mayweather is scared of Cotto?
Here is a direct quote from Bob Arum about Floyd Mayweather Jr. before the Mayweather-Judah fight (which happens to be Mayweather’s last fight on Top Rank)
Bob Arum on Mayweather:
“Floyd is the best fighter i’ve seen in 40 years other than the young Muhammad Ali, there are a number of aspects that make a great fighter. One is speed. His speed is phenomenal. The way he throws punches, phenomenal. The way he is conditioned, phenomenal. I mean, he’s the entire whole package. And beside all of those skills he’s the most intelligent fighter that I have ever seen. I mean, Floyd, this is no bullshit; Floyd can see a punch coming before the other guy knows he’s going to throw it. Do you understand that? I mean, I have never seen such ring intelligence that Floyd demonstrates. And so he’s the whole package, and you know, Ray Leonard was a great fighter, Marvin Hagler was a great fighter, Duran certainly was great, Oscar had a couple of years where he was very good, but there’s nobody that is a whole package like Floyd.”
I wonder why Mayweather wasn’t considered a ducker or not a great fighter until he bought out his contract for Bob Arum for 750K and made 8 Million vs Carlos Baldomir, 25 Million vs Oscar De La Hoya, 20 Million vs Ricky Hatton?
It’s because Floyd got away from him and made millions, appeared on WWE, dancing with the stars, became the face of boxing almost over night, all because Mayweather had the foresight to leave Bob Arum for 750,000 dollars. Its obvious Bob arum hasn’t been able to live it down, he now spends his time trying to verbally destroy mayweather whenever possible!
With the Mayweather-Pacquiao (as it’s officially referred to) fight near done, the boxing world waits in frantic anticipation. Negotiations surrounding the fight have gone surprisingly, if not shockingly well as both fighters have not much to complain about given the sheer amount of money they will be pocketing for facing each other. Even Mayweather, who has gained notoriety for coming up with any reason under the sun not to fight someone, has shown little to impede the progress of this multi-million dollar blockbuster. Pacquiao, who has enjoyed superstar status in his last few fights, reportedly had no problems accepting a 50-50 split of the prize. With the fight the world wants to see finally about to take place, everyone wins most especially the fans.
Who are we kidding really? No one can say for sure who will beat who. This is the first time in the sport where two fighters who arguably share the #1 pound for pound spot fight in the same weight division and are both in the prime of their careers. Manny Pacquiao is considered #1 because of his recent opposition and the way he utterly demolished them. Floyd Mayweather is considered #1 because of the pure talent and refined skill he possesses that is leagues above everyone else. When these two finally go at it, we’ll know who the real pound for pound king is. Anticipation for this fight is unbelievable.
My take on it is we have two fighters, completely opposite of each other style-wise, who are not only fighting for money but also the more important bragging rights to the #1 p4p spot. This is much more important to the fans and is why the fight has generated so much interest.
We have Floyd Mayweather Jr., who is considered to be one of the greatest defensive fighters in any era, if not the greatest defensive fighter of all time. His defense is ultimate, it’s impenetrable. He rarely gets hit and rarely commits. He waits for openings and flaws in an opponent and capitalizes. It’s not that he doesn’t take risks, it’s that his risks are calculated right down to a science. One of the most intelligent boxers to ever lace them up, Mayweather is near perfect in his technique. The result of this is a decade long career that saw him get 40 wins with no losses on his resume.
On the opposite side of the ring we have Manny Pacquiao, who is considered to be one of the greatest offensive fighters of all time. He cares not about defense, he will take a hit in order to deliver his own. He punches in bunches with dynamite power in both hands. His offense is ultimate, it’s inescapable. Unlike his opponent, Pacquiao takes risks with every punch he throws and he throws lots of them. His power is tremendous and as he proved in his last battle, he has a chin made of steel and a body made of granite. The result of this is a career that saw him claim the heads of many ring legends, scoring exciting knockout victories against the best the sport has to offer.
Mayweather versus Pacquiao will be the ultimate boxing showcase. Can the best offense in the world beat the best defense in the world, and vice versa? Can an offense so inescapable, defeat a defense that is impenetrable? Let us know your thoughts on this one.
It appears that we can begin the celebrations from America to the Philippines because Pacquiao Vs. Mayweather - the super mega-fight the entire world wants to see – is just about made. This is the BUZZ being reported on a number of top boxing web sites and news outlets as apparently, Manny Pacquiao has agreed to face Floyd Mayweather on March 13th of next year.
Me as a fan of both fighters and as a fan of the sport itself couldn’t be more excited. With that being said……………………….
Lets talk skill for skill from top to bottom between these 2 GREAT fighters. Past Accomplishments & records will play no part in this upcoming MEGA BOUT so lets talk about what really matters…….lets size’em up!!
