ESPN REPORTS THAT PACQUIAO ACCEPTS A 50/50 SPLIT
Manny Pacquiao has signed a contract to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. in boxing's biggest fight on March 13, a source with knowledge of the meeting told ESPN.com on Friday night.

Arum and Pacquiao met for two hours Friday to discuss the proposed deal, according to Pacquiao adviser Michael Koncz, who told the Associated Press that "Manny has some additional requirements, requests, which Arum didn't think was a problem. The requests of Manny were so realistic that Arum doesn't feel it's a problem and it's pretty much a done deal."

Brunson started his career with a record 19 consecutive first round KOs, albeit against suspect opposition.

AMERICANS ROY JONES JR. AND VERQUAN KIMBROUGH GET STOPPED IN THEIR AUSTRALIAN DEBUTS
IBO cruiserweight champion Danny Green (28-3, 25 KOs) scored a major upset when he stopped boxing legend Roy Jones Jr (54-6, 40 KOs) in round one moments ago at the Acer Arena, Homebush, Sydney, NSW, Australia. Green was the aggressor from the opening bell and connected with two solid left hands and a right cross to the temple that dropped Jones. The referee Howard Foster crowned Green at 2:02 to save Jones from further punishment when he was in no condition to defend himself. Green thanked his boxing team for helping him to achieve his greatest ring victory. Jones congratulated Green on his victory. Green’s devastating win likely torpedoed Jones’ planned rematch with Bernard Hopkins, who fights Enrique Ornelas tonight in Philadelphia. Maybe the door is now open for Green to face Hopkins.

ANOTHER BLACKEYE FOR BOXING, ALI FUNEKA GET'S ROBBED VS JOAN GUZMAN

By Sharkie's Machine

It was another black eye for boxing Saturday night in Quebec City, Canada, where South African Lightweight Ali Funeka (30-2-3, 25 KO’s) faced Joan Guzman (29-0-1, 17 KO’s) of the Dominican Republic for the vacant IBF Lightweight title.

This fight started with Guzman winning the first two rounds using a slick, aggressive approach that involved some impressive feints, great in and out movement and punches that were landing. That lasted until near the end of the second round, when a Funeka jab opened a small cut over Guzman’s right eye. From round three on, it was all Ali Funeka, who found his range and used his height to keep Guzman at the end of his jab. Guzman was a bloody mess by the fourth round, as the Funeka jab had busted up his nose and pecked away at the small cut that grew larger and bled more as the rounds progressed.

DON KING "MY BAD", JOHN RUIZ IS A FREE AGENT
Don King Productions issued a press release yesterday stating the company had a valid promotional contract with heavyweight boxer John Ruiz. Upon further review, Don King has learned that Ruiz’s contract with DKP has expired. “My boxing department had advised me my contract was still active, which turned out to be incorrect,” King said. “I apologize to John, his representatives, boxing fans and members of the media for making this mistake.” King explained that he was told that Ruiz had signed a three-year contract extension when in fact it had only been for two years. “When I was told this morning of this error, I immediately wanted to get the correct information out,” King said. “John had been with me since 1998, and I would prefer to see him stay with me, but he is free to do as he sees fit. I wish him well.”

PACQUIAO ADMITTED THAT COTTO HURT HIM, AND HAD BLOOD DRAINED FROM EAR AFTER THE FIGHT
Las Vegas, NV: Manny Pacquiao won his 7th division world title fight with a magnificent TKO over a very strong and tough Miguel Cotto.

But he did not escape unscratched.

“Cotto’s punches hurt but I just pretended they did not so as to discourage him” Pacquiao was quoted as saying.

After the 12-round fight, Cotto was taken to the hospital upon advice of the Nevada Athletic Commission as a pre-cautionary measure for routine full body scan. Thankfully, it was announced later that his is fine and will box again another day.

Pacquiao did not have to go but he stayed at the dressing room for several minutes to be attended by a plastic surgeon. Bob Arum indicated that they had to “drain some blood from his right ear to prevent the so called “cauliflower” effect that is prevalent on boxers and wrestlers.

At the post fight press conference the ever smiling world champion came in sporting a huge bandage on his right ear.

But he did not seem affected as he answered questions from the media.

He even sang a few bars of the same song he sung at the Jimmy Kimmel Show a week ago and invited everyone to witness his concert. “Of course you will have to pay $40.00”, he said.

He’s not big enough to contend in this weight class.

Sooner or later he’ll bite off more than he can chew.

Pacquiao’s weakness is his body.

Distractions make it seem like he’s not focused on the fight.

Pacquiao training in the Philippines is a bad idea.

He’s a blown up Lightweight fighting in the Welterweight division.

He will go down after taking punches from bigger guys.

He leaves himself open too much.

He’s one dimensional.

THE WBO SCREWS KERMIT CINTRON OUT OF HIS TITLE FIGHT AND WBC SHOULD BE ASHAMED
I had to report this piece by Dan Rafael who writes for ESPN: Please read below ...

As usual, WBO, WBC should be ashamed

Saturday, November 7, 2009 | Print Entry

HARTFORD, Conn. -- Let me preface this by saying I like Saturday night's Alfredo Angulo-Harry Joe Yorgey junior middleweight fight. I think it'll be a good scrap and a great way to open the HBO show headlined by the compelling Chad Dawson-Glen Johnson rematch.

Angulo is one of the most exciting fighters around, a guy who never takes a backward step. Yorgey is a good boxer now being trained by Kelly Pavlik trainer Jack Loew. Yorgey seemed very confident and excited for the fight when I chatted with him Friday night in the hotel lobby.

However -- and it's a big however -- I find it quite disgusting that the WBO sanctioned the fight for its interim 154-pound title. That's just wrong on so many levels.

CHAD DAWSON ONCE AGAIN BEATS GLEN JOHNSON AND PICKS UP WBC INTERIM BELT
IBO light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (29-0, 17 KOs) defended his IBO belt and won the vacant WBC interim belt with a twelve round unanimous decision over Glen Johnson (49-13-2, 33 KOs) on Saturday night at the XL Center in Hartford, CT. Dawson was to fast and to slick for Johnson tonight. Their first fight was very close but this time Dawson put all questions to rest with his brilliant performance. Dawson is still calling out Benard Hopkins but that might not happen with a supposed showdown with Benard Hopkins vs Roy Jones set for 2010. The final scores were 115-113, 115-113, 117-111 all for Chad Dawson.

DAVID HAYE SLAYS THE RUSSIAN GIANT NIKOLAY VALUEV OVER 12 BORING ROUNDS
Britain’s David “The Hayemaker” Haye (23-1, 21 KOs) made a history by becoming only the second ever cruiserweight champion to capture a world title in the most prestigious weight class on Saturday night at the Versischerung Arena in Nuremberg, Germany. Haye outpointed WBA heavyweight titleholder Nikolay Valuev (50-2, 34 KOs) with the scores 114-114, 116-112 and 116-112. WBA #4 Haye followed the path of the legendary Evander “The Real Deal” Holyfield, who was, ironically, defeated by Nikolay in his last bout.

I don't think that both fighters combined didn't even though close to 300 punches. I don't think they even landed a total of 100 punches combined together.

At the conclusion of twelve fairly uneventful rounds, judge Juan Manuel Garcia Reyes of Spain scored it a draw 114-114, while Tom Miller (USA) and Stefano Carozza (Italy) both had it 116-112 for the challenger and “the new WBA champion of the world” David Haye. Referee was Luis Pabon of Puerto Rico. Fightnews press row was divided in its opinion, almost resembling the official scoresheet: 112-116 (twice) for Haye and 114-113 for Valuev.

Valuev commented, “His speed was too much for me”, said disappointed but still classy Niko during a post-fight shortie. “I don’t think it was a one-sided loss for me but it clearly wasn’t the best day in my life”.

Haye commented, “I did it exactly what I had predicted”, exclaimed the flamboyant champion. “I proved myself to be the best heavyweight in the world. Valuev was a tough fighter to overcome but I’ve done it at the end of the day”.

PAQUIAO VS COTTO "THE MEDIA ROLLERCOASTER"
By Christian Jimenez  christian@officialscorecard.com

My counter says 8 days, 10 hours, 30 minutes and 24 seconds for the most anticipated fight of the year.   Even as I am writing this article, I can feel a chill coming down my spine.  The hair on my arms is lifting and yet we still have a total of 729,024 seconds left for this amazing event. Yes, I even count the seconds left to this fight, not only because we are about to watch two of the best fighters the sport has brought to us in the past years or because Manny Pacquiao is pound for pound best but because on November 14th we will witness a war.
